At long last the Project is kicking off in earnest. The more eagle eyed of you will have noticed we now have some new equipment already in place. A new Pommel, new Parallel Bars and a Spotting platform for the competition A Bars. What will not be evident yet are the new anchor points that have been pre-drilled and ready to receive the bars and rings when they are relocated to their new positions. Equally not so obvious are the new safety mats for beams and the new red floor matting for the upper fitness room that will allow training and other activities to be started there too. All in all, over £11,000 has been invested in this equipment and professional fees to get us to this point of the project.

We are now pleased to announce that after a few false starts, we have selected a contractor to excavate and build our new training pits. This aspect of the project and the associated equipment and foam block linings will account for a further investment of over £50,000.

This work will commence during the last weekend in May and the work is expected to take 4-6 weeks to complete. There will be a requirement to close the gym initially for health and safety reasons but we will aim to keep this closure to a minimum. More detail on this will be announced shortly as we refine our work schedules with the contractor. We do hope that all parents and gymnasts will take the long term view regarding the undoubted benefits that this project will bring to SALTO and be patient with us during the alterations. We will do all we can to minimise the inevitable disruption to training schedules.

Please note we must change the normal SALTO car park entrance with effect from  11 May 2014.

The new entrance will be the first gate on the left as you approach the gym from the main Camford Way access road. The current gate will be for exclusive use by the contractor and associated plant and machinery. Prior to the works commencing, an area at that end of the car park will be fenced off for safety reasons and this will of course reduce our already limited parking. Any change of this nature will inevitably increase the risk of possible collision. So we ask that everyone is extra vigilant and approaches SALTO slowly, entering and leaving with extra care.

It is also likely we will have limited access to the viewing gallery or may have to close this area if this proves to be too hazardous. Again we will provide advance notice iF this area is to be temporarily closed to the public or restricted access arrangements are put in place.

We will be asking for volunteer assistance to help move equipment and mats around the gym in preparation of the works. This work will be done at weekends for an hour or two after training finishes. If you can assist, please email [email protected] . Thank you.
