After a considerable amount of frustration, we have now reached the point when the first stage of the major construction works will commence. As preparation for this you will have noticed we have changed the main entrance gates and the internal layout of the apparatus. There are more changes to come.

The excavation of the training pits will commence on Saturday 24th May 2014.

All classes will run as normal on that Saturday BUT we will have sectioned off the end of the forecourt area to the right of the main entrance doors to the left of the red fire door. This will be fenced off to the outer wall to form a construction compound. Children should not be allowed to play near the fence or attempt to climb the fence.

After consultation with the contractor, we must regrettably close the main hall of the gym for at least 6 days. During this time all normal training sessions will be suspended. This is unavoidable for safety reasons as the noise and dust pollution is expected to be considerable. You are advised to monitor the website and scroll down for “announcements” and our facebook page regarding the restarting of classes which we anticipate will be the following Saturday but we cannot be certain.

Some squad classes will hold special strength and conditioning sessions in the Fitness Room above the mini-gym at special times that will be announced directly to the relevant gymnasts during the closure week. These sessions are essential as competitions are on the horizon so we are seeking to minimise the inevitable disruption to their preparation.

Following the initial excavation works, we will be able to run classes in the main gym area, but the contractors will still be in the building for up to 6 weeks. During this time, the project area will be cordoned off with temporary internal walls for safety purposes. These walls will be erected this week and completed prior to the works commencing. This will mean that the normal access to the viewing gallery will be closed. Indeed, the viewing gallery will remain out-of-bounds for the duration of the works project except for brief visits to the vending machines, if these remain in operation, under supervision and the kitchen area. Access to the stairs down from the viewing gallery will be blocked off at the top of the stairs also.

In recognition of this, we will open the Fitness Room as a temporary viewing gallery. Access to this room will be via the side entrance to the SALTO Centre opposite the new main gate. Parents with prams and people with walking and climbing difficulties should ask the receptionist and should use the lift and select the button marked “2”. This lift is not designed for mass usage so please give consideration to those that need to use this facility. There is a unisex disabled persons toilet at the foot of the side stairs and should be used by all waiting spectators. This said, space and access to this room will be restricted and therefore it would be helpful if you could arrange to drop off and collect the gymnast(s) after their session rather than waiting. This will reduce congestion in an already reduced car park out side and leave space for those who cannot return home as distances to travel are too far.

We apologise for the inconvenience the essential building works will cause but we are sure that you will agree that when the gym is returned to full operation, you will find a unique and unrivalled training facility in Bedfordshire that the gymnasts and coaches will be able to take full advantage of. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during this construction project.

Our reception staff will be on hand to deal with queries or you may contact Amanda Browne or myself and we shall endeavour to answer your questions.A copy of this notice should have been handed out at all classes commencing Tuesday 13 May 2014. Copies are available from reception  and are in the dispencer near the trophy cabinet in the viewing gallery.
