Club Championships 2017 Our Annual Club Championships was held this year on Saturday 24th June. This was a fantastic event with almost 250 recreational gymnasts from 5 -17 competing against their peers and to show off their skills to family and friends. The gymnasts all performed their routines on the apparatus used in their sessions. For girls; Beam, Bars, Vault and Floor. For boys they performed on Parallel Bars instead of Beam. The Coaches and Young Leaders volunteered their time and from stetting up the Gym on Friday evening to all the roles required to make the event happen. Supporting gymnasts performing, Judging the routines and then restoring the gym to its normal training set up after a very long day. Congratulations to all the medal winners and well done to all the gymnasts for taking part in making the day so enjoyable The event was topped off with the presentation of the Tim Jenkins Memorial Trophy to the Gymnast that achieved the highest overall aggregate score on all of the pieces of apparatus. This year, the Club Champion with a total score of 40.2 is Riana Karja. She achieved Gold on Beam and Floor and Silver on Bars and Vault. The trophy presented by Lucy Mabbitt, Coach and former winner or the same trophy along with Vince Whittaker, Chair of Board of Trustees. This is one of our two main fundraisers of the year and all money raised goes towards new equipment as well as covering the costs of trophies, medals and certificates. This year the event raised over £1000 after covering all competition costs such as medals and certificates. So we wish to thank everyone for their support for the club. We would also like to thank the 30 parents that completed GifAid declaration forms on Saturday and all those that have done so already. We continue to appeal to the remaining eligible parents/guardians of all our members to complete a declaration, so the club may receive additional funding from government. Blank forms are available at reception. Finally we wish to thank our supporters SPORTED and their association with Britvic for their donation of soft drinks that were distributed to visitors, competitors and volunteers. These were very welcome as we were at the end of the hottest week of the year and kept everyone refreshed during the day.
